Canoe or Kayak: The Never Ending Battle

posted by admin

Canoe vs Kayak – this is the never ending battle between two similar small boats but totally different in execution. If you think about it, the canoe is the more traditional boat used by centuries already. It serves as a more stable way of transporting yourself across a river. A kayak on the other hand is more like a sport in which it is less stable yet faster than a canoe. Nevertheless, both are good ways for a full body workout.

But what if you do not have a budget for both? What if you only need to choose one? Which one would best suit you?

This is a complicated matter that honestly, we cannot even answer fully. What we can advice people is to use the power of the internet – specifically using online forums as a means to decide for you which one to take. An online forum is simply a way for people with the same interests to gather and discuss their opinions to other people similar to them. It is one of the best ways one can start on finding information about canoe and kayak. In the end, choosing canoe or kayak is simply a matter of preference. But both are win-win situation as they keep you healthy and fit no matter how you put it.

Money from Your Couch

The U.S. Recession is still ongoing and the onslaught does not seem to be ending soon. More and more people are getting fired and losing their jobs. As for the mom and pop stores, they are losing lots and lots of sales and are closing down one by one. The world seems so bleak right now; what can a common man like you can do the ride the recession tsunami? Well, one advice is to start your own internet home business. What? Starting a business is hard? That idea is a fallacy; starting a business has never been easier thanks to the internet itself.

Starting your own internet business is as easy as one, two and three. One, you must find a suitable brand name and domain and setup a payment system. You can start small and create a free blog to sell your stuff. Second, you must find a perfect product that you can sale for cheap; now that is all up to you. Three, promote your store/site through emails, word of mouth and the like. There are a thousand avenues to get more buyers and more visitors to your sites. Just think of this, the internet is a global medium. The recession has not hit hard other countries beyond the States. Get your customers from anywhere and everywhere around the globe and start earning cash from your home and from your own couch.

Top Crimes: Phishing and Pharming

posted by admin

The internet is no different from the real world because crimes also exist in it. And even more, the internet crimes have no difference from the ones we experience in the real world such as theft. And this stealing crime took its internet form through phishing and pharming.

Phishing and Pharming

Phishing pertains to the act of obtaining access credentials such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by posing as a trustworthy entity through email or instant messaging. Its concept is basically drawn from the act of fishing which indirectly leads to baits used to catch the personal and financial information. Meanwhile, Pharming is the act of redirecting a website’s traffic to another fake website by manipulating the victim’s host file or DNS server software.

Pharming and Phishing are both internet crimes on online identity theft information. Both can take the form of e-mails to mess up with their victims. But these two differ on the manner of stealing. Phishing has a smaller scale than Pharming because it only targets individuals one at a time while Pharming can target many victims with just one attack. Furthermore, Pharming maybe more complicated than Phishing but it is more notorious. Today, Pharming is a major concern to ecommerce businesses and online banking.

On the Loose: Intellectual Property Issues

posted by admin

There are a lot of on-going debates on the huge impact of the Internet and its violations of the Intellectual Property Law. But one need not be a lawyer or professional to notice these intellectual property issues when using the Internet.

Even the simple acts that we do and have gotten used to in the internet are actually violations of intellectual property rights already. The simplest examples revolve around the following – music, picture, computer programs and publications.

Intellectual Property

Perhaps the most obvious act of intellectual property rights violation is through music. Downloading music files and videos from unauthorized websites have been very rampant. And this huge problem is very hard to solve because there are still no laws providing sanctions for such or perhaps there maybe laws pertaining to these violations but there are still no ways of how to enforce them. Another concern is pictures or symbols that are copied from the internet. Just like the ordinary copyright and patent issues, there are pictures or symbols found in the internet that has digital copyrights.

Though one may not know which one has or none digital copyrights, it is still very easy to copy these pictures. The most common victims of such are company logos and marketing taglines. And like the music files, computer programs are also easily downloaded from the internet. A lot installer programs that require subscription are among the favorite things downloaded through the internet for no cost at all. And the more controversial issue than music, pictures, or software programs is publications. Thesis dissertations, personal teaching modules, or subscribed publications can easily be copied just like the other items with intellectual properties. This greatly posts a risk on professionals and students who send their materials through the internet. And sadly, there is still no way of addressing these issues with the internet still behaving uncontrollably and borderless especially when there are no specific governing laws and law enforcement for it yet.

Welcome to the Internet Culture

posted by admin

Due to geographic and social differences, places around the world have developed different cultures. But now, despite these differences, people from any places in the world can be part of the same culture called internet culture.

The internet has the ability to have a global reach because anyone with an internet connection can already access any places in the world. And for this ability, the internet culture has the largest number of people sharing it – even larger than the Western culture. But the internet culture is no different from the geographic and social ones that we know. It still has the basic components such as education, business, government, etc. but what made the internet culture different is how it changed the way these components take place. Online education does not require physical presence for learning to take place and books are now e-books. Online businesses and government online sites provide the convenience of doing transactions right at your home or office – no need for frequent, long, or time-consuming travels and long waiting lines. And socializing in the internet culture has taken form through the social networking sites, blogs, and more. Shopping, which is a favorite among women, has been converted to online stores and online payments such as Paypal. One can even buy from a store on another country and have it delivered and shipped right to his doorstep.

Internet World Wide Web

And to be part of this internet culture, one only needs an internet connection and online identity. Online identity is obtained through having email and accounts, and which is used for subscription, payment schemes, and basically logging in and out of websites.
